Bar Equipment

Screw top jars, spoons, pestles and measuring spoons can all serve as cocktail shakers, bar spoons, muddles and jiggers. But if you really plan on making cocktails on a regular basis, you’d better get some really good quality bar equipment.

Jigger

A jigger is a small measuring cup for spirits. Often there are two sides on a jigger, a large and a small side. The small side is usually half the size of the larger side.

Barspoon

A bar spoon is a fairly flat long spoon made of stainless steel. The bar spoon is used for stirring drinks and pouring one drink over another for layered cocktails.

Muddler

The muddler is a stamp-like bartender tool for mashing (muddling) fruit and herbs, which releases extra aromas and flavors.

Cocktail Shakers

There are two types of shakers. The standard model is made of stainless steel and consists of three parts: a cup, a lid with strainer and a cap. The Boston shaker usually consists of two parts: a mixing glass and a stainless steel top. However, you need an extra sieve with this cocktail shaker.
